Castle Dore is a superbly sited Hill Fort of the Iron Age.It has many historical associations in both oral folklore and literature.Such as Tristan & Isolde.

The ramparts are still quite high and the centre is very open and flat. The fort is situated in a lovely position with outsatnding views as you can see.The hill fort is near Fowey in Cornwall and is located at OS grid reference SX103548.

Dave has compsoed a light and varied work to represent the windy day and the bitter-sweet romantic associations with King Mark.

    Hi Adam

Yes I know what you mean. The term "castle" was given to these Iron age forts because the foundations of the Norman and Medieval castles we have are the same. They were based upon the same earth working system with wooden or stone walled keeps.Have a look at Motte and Bailey archetypes which looks just like Castle Dore from above.

  • Was expecting something a little more castle looking but still great, thanks for putting up.

Thanks for watching. These earthworks are 225ft in diameter. Please see the Historic Cornwall website

for a good survey map and extra information.

    Thanks

  • Thanks for putting this video up, looks like a uni-vallate fort any idea how many hectares are in side the main fort ?. Do like forts near the sea, might of been used for trade !
