1979 was some year for british music, Human League, Gary Numan, Lene Lovich, XTC(?) the brilliant ska/two tone, Specials, Madness, the list goes on for originality, durability and talent.

@spikexmtz: The chunk-chunk-bassline sounds very much like it's coming from the MiniKorg 700S-synthesizer, and that's not on stage, so it must be on tape. The drum sounds are probably on there too - too dangerous to do that "live" on unstable equipment - how they synced drums and bass, I don't know ...

@spikexmtz My guess is that Martin's Jupiter 4 was playing the main squarewave riff, while Ian's System 100 was doing drums. The tape player was probably used for the chunk-chunk-chunk bassline.

I loved the beginning especially the guys face right before Human League was introduced and started performing.. Phil's hair looks soft.

@spikexmtz - not 100% sure about Human League, but when I saw Depeche Mode from Jenkinsons bar in Brighton, they used the tape machine as a backing track, with live keyboards played over the top. No drummer on stage meant you needed to have some kind of backing. Only problem was when it came to doing an encore they had to rewind the tape!!! Wouldn't happen today. ;o)

Would imagine the Human League were using the same principle, drums and additional synts on the reel to reel.

Anybody know what's going on with the reel-to-reel? Are they playing the drum track from it? Are they using it for delay? Did other artists at the time incorporate reel-to reels into their set, and if so, what did they use them for? I MUST KNOW!
