A #1 hit for The Spinners on the Rhythm & Blues charts. It was the 256th #1 R&B song of the Rock Era. It also hit #3 on the Top 40 charts and #31 on the Adult Contemporary charts. A time when they sang it, you felt it.

@INCHRIST4CHRIST perhaps that's why this tune is so appealing! joking or not, very cool perspective

The hair, the clothes, the dance. I love this. I'm so "stuck in the 80's", but every once in a while, the 70's creep in. Good job.
BOBBY SMITH has ALWAYS been the MAIN LEAD SINGER of the Spinners since the very beginning.Bobby sang lead on most of the group's biggest hits...like THIS one, I'LL BE AROUND (their 1st million-seller) COULD IT BE I'M FALLING IN LOVE (the 2nd million-seller) , THEN CAME YOU (with Dionne Warwick, another million- seller.and a #1), GAMES PEOPLE PLAY (another million-seller). He also sang lead on their very 1st hit back in '61, THAT'S WHAT GIRLS ARE MADE FOR,and most of their '60s Motown songs

The Beatles split, Nam was raging, and the happy go lucky mid 60s had come crashing down and people were down and depressed. Music had lost its way, it was the era of the "singer/songwriter"..and some of it was pretty bad, but the soud groups like the Spinners were absolutely sensational. Thanks, lads.
