What makes Fedor so great is humbleness and ability. There is a difference between cockiness and confidence.  Fedor is confident.

I don't think it is a slavic question : you got some modest and simple men ou there in asia, western europe, eastern europe . Imho it is the American people who has a hard time understand it, because it is the "entertainment culture" and "show must go on" country by excellence.

i agree i come from the same background myself. It has to be understood that Ukraine is a much tougher (physically and mentally) poor country and especially the russian/soviet army teaches you to be humble and know your place as well as that your not invincible and expendable.

My guess is when he was a boy or young man he may have been very cocky and it bit him in the ass at on point teaching him to not talk too much.
