When Glenn Beck felt suicidal, the means he thought of was a handgun. This is not surprising. The success of suicide attempts is dramatically influenced by the means chosen. Firearms are by far the most effective means, and handguns are the most common firearm used in suicide. However, Beck is so confused by inconvenient facts that he can falsely argue that guns save lives. He's wrong and this video proves he ought to know he's wrong.

If someone is really serious about killing them self they are going to do it regardless of the means that they have.

The Canadian Government did passed legislation and tried to make it harder to own guns because of suicide by gun, you know what happened? The number of people who killed themselves with guns went down, and the number of suicides by hanging and wrist slitting went up. ]

So, from this video, we can determine that if there were no firearms in the US, the suicide rate would be cut in half? But if you look at the map showing worldwide suicide/attempted suicide rates, and compare it against the restrictiveness of gun laws, you can tell this is a false correlation.

Remember, when danger is seconds away, the police can be there in minutes.

@oldannyboy37 This same logic holds true for a lot of things. If people are gonna do something, they'll do it, and the law doesn't matter. If criminals are going to own guns, they'll do it, legally or illegally.

Extensive studies have shown that gun control does nothing to change the number of suicides, they only lower the level of suicides by gun. When a person wants to kill themselves, they are going to do it, with or without a gun. Guns do NOT increase depression or suicidal thoughts. Beck could have just as easily said 'if they brought me some rope, or a blade or narcotics or any other method of killing himself, he would have accepted it'

The decision to take a life is NOT made by a gun. Your logic is flawed. Taking guns away will not make you any safer, because you've done nothing to stop the real threat. The real threat is stopping the person who has made the decision to take a life. The gun is just a tool, as is a knife, a bomb, a car, a baseball bat, a frying pan etc. All of these can be used to take a life, but none of these things have the ability to decide to take a life.

That vid is some seriously flawed logic

1)People serious about suicide use highly lethal method

2)Most "attempts" are gestures & use reversible methods(is that really an attempt?)

3)Guns are convenient for someone serious & the serious ones WILL find another method

4)Does ANYONE believe someone serious would think: I can't get a gun, oh well, guess I will suffer through life for the next 65 yrs

5)Has any country, state or even city reduced suicide through gun law?
