I just bought a roku streaming device (to my TV via wireless internet) & have those channels as well as over the air, free tv. Working well for me, however, for families with kids I can see why cable is necessary as it's a heck-of-a-lot cheaper than sending the kids to the movies. :o!

@wereallmadhere9 Totally agree. Now that we've been without cable for 8 months, we find ourselves talking more :) and doing other things. It's so easy to just flip on the TV and surf around when you're bored, and end up watching some REALLY bad mindless TV :) Which I admit I like sometimes, and I do admit I miss that sometimes...but overall I like having more free time :) Thanks for watching!
I already watch all my shows online because I'm always busy or not at home when my favorite shows air. So I always watch it the next day on Yidio. Yidio lists a whole bunch of shows and movies & posts links on where you can watch them online. (:

@aaykumiks Wow thanks for the great tip! I'd never heard of Yidio but it seems like a great resource! I'm going to add it to my blog post about living without cable right now. Thanks! And thanks for watching :)

We made the "go without cable" switch just a month and a half ago when we moved apartments.
Thanks to that (and a cheaper yet faster internet deal I negotiated), we're going to save ~$1,100/year! That'll pay for a lot of alternative entertainment, such as Hulu Plus, DVDs, and even live theater. Sweet!
Plus, we have more time in our evenings to talk, walk, explore our community and visit with friends.
For anyone wishing for more time or more money (don't we all!), giving up cable can be great.

@FrugalityGame Totally agree on all accounts...we've been reading more, which has been great. Amazing how the savings can add up, right? Thanks for watching!

I lived without TV for over a year. It was the best thing I could I have done. When I went to visit someone and they had their TV on I was so bored with it! SO MANY COMMERCIALS! TV is so loud and busy, not a moments peace. Also, all my other household cleaning got done faster.
Nothing beats a clean, quiet house!

@LilacRosesFromMe Wow no TV at all? Very impressed, I think that's great. The commercials do get really tedious (that was my favorite thing about DVR), and I agree I have way more time to do other things now that I'm not plopping in front of the TV every night! Thanks for watching :)
