Thank you so much for making these two videos! I have one ove these trees right outside my house, and using the beans for a science project, found this walkthrough IMMENSELY helpful!! I would have never known to soak and scarify the bean.
To save the tedious work scarifying the seeds and soaking them, instead plan your planting of TMLs in early July. Take the green seed pods from a mature plant. They will have a velvety grey coating. Inside will be plump white seeds with reddish splotches on them. Plant them in cups with paper lining as this video shows. Using the current year's crop of plump seeds has a very high germination rate. I planted about 20 seeds this month (July) and most of them have germinated already.
Mine all seemed to swell up overnight. I guess it just depends. I tried planting seeds that haven't fully matured. I planted 20 and all 20 died. Maybe I did something wrong. Hopefully I get the next vid out soon.
I scarified the beans I collected with a diamond blade that came on my Gerber super tool. I found that soaking the beans 2 days made the outer part just a bit soft, and made scarifying them easier. Then, I put all the beans I scarified, about 30 of them, into a cup of water. It took way longer than 24 hours, but after a couple of days, I keep checking, and 5 or 6 of them are swelled up. Each day seems to result in some more plump beans. So, I plant a few each day out in the yard.
