WAIT: Before you hate me, ignore me, or downvote me, you should know I am merely an atheist hoping to foster healthy discussion on a commonly used argument against the Christmas Tree. For some great videos debunking Christmas, look up Kingheathen and Zombiechaddy. Thanks for watching

  • To potatoraider:

Thanks for the response and the KJ passage. I think that Jeremiah serves as a good passage for showing how God was opposed to adopting any pagan practices (Catholic Church really failed on that), but doesn't serve as a good argument specific to the Christmas tree.

P.S. How ironic this passage is, as this could almost be taken to be an argument against using the Cross as a symbol! XD

  • you are looking at this exactly backwards. the point is, people these days use pagan christmas trees on a stand and covered in shiny decorations, trees exactly like the ones banned in the bible, to celebrate christmas. and i bet 90% of them never even read jer, 10.

  • this totally failed to make any constructive criticism of my points.

  • Imagine, you are not a preacher but an atheist & you understand Jeremiah 10 better than some preachers. You have just put a lot of them to shame. How is it that you understand Jer.10 & they can't? Amazing.

  • What about Aestra? They convinced many pagans that all their gods were demons... but no one would believe that the goddess of spring was a demon, so they tacked the resurrection story to it due to demand.

And if they didn't at one time adorn the tree with the guts of the sacrificed victims (to pagan gods) then we wouldn't still decorate it today. Maybe i'm wrong, but to dismiss it as custom seems "dismissive" *cough*. the days of the week are all pagan gods too, is there no problem there?

  • I have the ESV and it says axe instead of chisel. I still agree with you though.

  • @Nonoyawns Christmas Trees are pagan, so whether or not Jeremiah is specifically refering to them is irrelevent if he indeed is talking about adopting ANY PAGAN PRACTICE in general. Christmas and it's trees are definatly included then as they are a pagan practise. So, in essense, you have defeated your own argument.

  • @Nonoyawns If you don't believe in the bible, what do you care what is says or how others interprete it? So what if it is talking about Christmas Trees? You don't follow God and the bible anyway, so what is it to you? Why defend Christmas if you don't believe in Christ anyway? Because it is fun? Because you get presents? Why would I care to disproove some false interpretation of hindu doctrine, when I am not a hindu? Why would I care about chinese New Year, if I am not Chinese? Get my point

  • What is great is that obviously Nonoyawns has nothing better to do then mock religions that are not his own. He feels that Christianity has abused his little mind, so he seeks revenge. He will claim his own set of athiestic world views, but will always be speaking about Christianity. He will never say why he is right, but only why you are wrong. And I hope evolution was not a convincing factor in your "deconversion", if so, look up a website called "Darwinism Refuted". Or are you too bias?

  • @Nonoyawns What is funny, is how you "deconversionists" spend your deconverted lives still wrapped up in Christianity. If your lifestyle and world are correct, great, good for you! But you seem to need to purge your hate for all things Jesus and bible here on the tube. Do you think it honorable to mock others who believe differently? You must think Christians "dumb", so you think it is ok it insult the ignorant? If you are upset with Christians for their insults, are you any better?

  • New International version is a false translation, use King James or New King James Versions for accuracy in the translations.

  • @Nonoyawns The subject is not idols, but the CUSTOMS OF THE NATIONS, which would include the Germanic customs that sound an awfully lot like this. Or is Christmas and it's trees the only Pagan holiday that God approves of? You people are shooting yourselves in the foot, trying to decieve people about Jeremiah 10's most obvious meaning. Do you really love Christmas more then the God it supposedly celebrates? God says do not learn these customs, they are futile, or pointless. Look into history

  • Wow, an atheist who can read the Bible in context? You make more sense than some Christians. That's scary. LOL.
