Lister DK now completely rebuilt / restored and ready for its initial first start up and run. Third video in the series.
Sadly for me, it didn't go too well, as you can see by this film.
The timing has been checked and double checked, Points gap, Spark Plug, Petrol, Tappets, Carb, Float, etc etc... all appears ok.
My Gut feeling tells me Im getting an intermittent spark. After many hours of checking my work, Im convinced my faulty running D is in the electrical side of things. I know I have a cracked Points cover, electricity could be tracking?and I have witnessed lots of sparks from the contact breaker points, from memory this is not good as I recall, Possible condenser fault?
Head scratching time now...

  • Not having a moan but !! You came very close to being wound up with your loose fitting shirt there at one stage when it was close to the gib key !! also its 8 stroking because the air valve is set too weak causing it to hunt so much, thats why it picked up momentarily when you richened it , nice job though . looks sweet..

  • @jannercornwall You know at the time, I wasn't aware of any of that, which is odd for me because Im an ex-toolmaker, so Im used to machinery and revolving parts etc. It was only when I watched the film back I saw what you saw, I gave myself a rollicking, trust me. I was frustrated by the engine not working 100per cent, I think.

My problem was the condenser, soon as that was sorted out, everything ran fine after that.

Im quite pleased with myself over this engine, it was tough going at times.

    THX

  • @jannercornwall Yeh at 2.25 i thought bloody hell that was close !!!! you done a nice job there and should be proud of a job well done , i believe in the same , do it right , do it once . just be careful in future ! cheers jon

  • @jannercornwall Oddly enough this whole job began with a Petrol leak, the Paint bubbled up, resulting in me scraping it off, which lead on to me stripping it down and doing what I did here. Im glad I did, like you say, do it once and do it proper, unlike the engines last owner who just slapped paint over everything slap dash like, restored he said! my arse! - Least I can look at this now and know in my heart that Im happy with it....

    Thanks for the feedback.

    Paul :-)

  • @Bevoin1970 A lot of people say that you can over restore an engine , but at the end of the day i like to see working clothes and highly polished examples, and it,s your engine and if your happy with it then thats all that matters

  • @eatmypies Im still trying to grasp exactly whats happening. On the bottom end inside the crankcase, the Pushrods sit inside a half cup type thing, these cups follow the cam pushing up the rods. At the top end, the rod is dished if I remember rightly, and this fits like a ball and socket joint onto the rocker arm. Providing the tappets are set correctly, approx 10 thou inch, no way should they come out. Tie wire around the push roads and lower down inside the crankcase to position them :-)

  • @Bevoin1970 , Thanks for letting me know, It did look good enough to drink...haha :-) Thanks Paul
