Band opening occurred on 6 Meters, 50 Mhz, with rain over parts of Florida and some unique weather conditions in the Caribbean causing a "ducting" effect to happen to radio signals at higher than normal frequencies. This is kind of like a Temporary Information Superhighway for Voice Radio - that some amateur radio operators really enjoy. A few Florida and other US hams seemed to get a clue on this ... but not as many as I would expect. While everyone was watching TV, Sleeping, or worried about the Rain ... I figured that weather might mean something good would happen on the bands. An earlier DX bulletin about 6 meters also clued me in ... so I went on 6 meters to see what I could see (hear). This is the first of 5 contacts to Puerto Rico, and one to the Dominican Republic. These are 1000 + mile contacts. Not a big deal for lower frequencies ... but quite a big deal for VHF 50 Mhz.
