Taking off from Chicago O'Hare airport on December 23rd, under heavy snowfall... not for the faint of heart. The blotches on the screen are snowflakes on the window, that get blown away just as the airplane takes off.
Runway lineup at the 2:50 mark.

  • A great video of an American Airlines MD-80 departure in a snow storm. Note, the aircraft was deiced with a special deicing fluid, a thick fluid, designed to sheer off, at 100mph to 120mph. Protects wings and control surfaces from ice. That makes flying safe in snow storms.

  • AWESOME VID!!!!!!! THANKS FOR SHARING, really great video i wouldve been crappin my pantalones taking off in that snow...

  • Beautiful video. I love taking off from O'Hare. I agree tho that someone flying for the first time might just change their mind if they saw this video first...lol.

  • Nice video. Made my palms sweat a bit :) I had to follow the tail end of a blizzard into Chicago in 2000 that had me wigging out a bit. It wasn't snowy but the winds were nasty. Cool video though, thanks!

  • Definitely an MD80.

  • i guess i'm not faint of heart, because i love take off likes that.
