What's the deal with speed limits and the mail drop since I thought there was a blanket 25mph limit on the line when it's open to the public?
Paraffinmeister 1 year ago
@Paraffinmeister its because the track on heritage railways is not up to main line standards in the most part, the mail drops on the GCR are done at 45mph because they don't carry passengers.

@TimEaston Aye I know about the blanket 25mph limit (work at the Strathspey in my free time), I just wasn't sure about the deal with the mail drops, thanks for clearing that one up for me. Is it 60 that the railway has to be closed to the public for then?
Paraffinmeister 1 year ago
@Paraffinmeister yes the railway is authorized to do 60 mph tests and Tornado did some of them but only when there are no public

A nice all round selection of steam and diesel. I will have to get down there sometime. I'm from Stoke.

It is well worth a visit especially at gala times as the mail drops are a good spectacle.
