Sen. Obama expresses openness to explore a variety of energy sources, including nuclear, keeping in mind that climate change is real and must be addressed quickly. (Meet the Press, 5/4/08)
The biggest problem with nuclear waste is how long it takes to decontaminate in either 100s of years or thousands of years. Considering that modern human societies can generally be stamped into the last 4000 years, that's a tough load to burden our future generations. Consider that there is no fail safe for tailing ponds and other nuclear contaminated sites, it's not worth the risk. Let's establish other options first.
Obama, we haven't built a nuclear power plant in over 30 years so how can you say that the nuclear power plans we have been building have costs over-runs because of how they are design? We haven't built any recently? Are you going off the last one we build eons ago because if you are, isn't that dumb to base your assessment off of something done so long ago especially when other nations like France have done so much successful with nuclear power recently?
