South Wales ancient rituals, this is a tradition mainly in Glamorgan and Gwent, (now called Monmouth by the English).
It has players called the Y Fari Lwyd, which is from the old religion to do with Donn the Earth mother, also about rebirth with the horse Goddess. The Horse, she has a man inside, that chases the women, the one that leads the horse is called the ossla, the Sergeant who into's the performance, the Cadi represents male and female the opposites in the universe, so it is half woman and half man, then there is the twins they represent Chaos. The Mari party goes to a pub where they sing let us in and give us beer to entertain you, the pub/ house, they sing go away but in the end they yield and let us in to ply us with free beer, if they do not then we wreck the house/ pub , but at a spiritual level it brings good luck for the coming year, plus it increases fertility in all! Hwyl.
