my second attempt to produce a grasshopper escapement using only lego technic. This time I have used only one escape wheel and have reduced the amplitude my having the escapement down the pendulum rod. Power consumption is much reduced, but using axle rods to hold the wheel teeth is not very safe and the escapement may easily run away if knocked etc.

  • damn it, 'phile! hold that camera still!

"the escapement may easily run away if knocked"

does starting the pendulum require any special attention?

  • Starting the pendulum requires no special attention. However, when adjusting the escapement, the drive weight will be removed, which causes the tooth engaged with a pallet to disengage, so before restoring the weight, you must ensure a tooth is engaged with a pallet again, otherwise a runaway will occur.
