After 12 great years Det. Elliot Stabler is leaving the SVU squad. :(

I'm not sure I understand everyone's comments. I thought it was pretty clear that Stabler's character was killed. That's what I derived from the dialogue between Cragen and Olivia in the first episode. Was I wrong?

@BDJ1962 lol really? or u're just trolling? Stabler's character put his paper in, he resigned that's what Cragen tells Olivia in the first episode. That's been discussed since the decision Chris Meloni made in July to leave the show... Why should have they killed him??????????

I can't believe that I missed the first episode of the new season which allegedly "explains" Stabler's departure. If the clip above is correct, Cragen (at 2:10) answers Olivia''s question of "how long will he be gone" with "until all his bruises are gone ..and yours too." Clearly leaving the door open for Stabler to retusn, all "healed" ...Hopefuly Chris Meloni will see that the grass is not greener on the other side of the fence, and will realize (not too late) what he gave up ...and return.

I for one don't blame anyone other than Chris Meloni for leaving. Yes, he had his reasons, and they're justified, but leaving straight like that, with no closure - and yes that's what real life is like, people come and go and there's not always a hello or goodbye, but when I saw Mariska -- I mean Olivia break down in the back room like that (13:1), it just hurt. I'm a huge E/0 shipper and it would've been nice to give her a happy ending, just this once. Does everyone she's loved have to leave?

@oliviahorse101 Heck yeah! And we expect an EPIC kiss when he does. I'm telling you, they have got to bring Meloni back, mostly because there's all this sexual tension and then…it crumbles. It's pathetic.

This show without him isn't the same. I've watched every episode of SVU and his persona draws you into the story. He was great for the show and I hope they can make a deal and at least have him for a couple of episodes. The new episodes are just boring and doesn't draw you into the story as much as the old ones. Olivia+Stabler made SVU a legendary show. Call it emotional or w.e you want but 12 years of watching the show and now its coming to an end.

I think NBC will eventually have Chris back for at least one episode if not a season when he's done doing work on other shows. Dick Wolf knows how important EO is to us lol

Olivia's "I want a new partner" line is a past snippet from a 2006 episode used to explain her "absence" (Mariska's pregnancy). Olivia had just been grazed in the neck by a bullet from a pedophile (Lou Diamond Phillips).  You can see the wound on Olivia's neck that was not there at the end of season 12.

Also, they even "muted" the "new partner" so it's very hard to hear. I still think they're hoping for a repeat of the DALLAS return of Bobby.
