Quick, constructive criticism from an old session man ... ... .. try introducing a wee bit more ornamentation (5 note rolls, cuts, short rolls etc...), which will parallel the original tunes played on fiddle, pipes etc..
It CAN be done quite effectively on guitar, in a variety of tunings. Just takes time and practice. Apart from that . . . . . well done !

This song, as played, is in the instructional book and cassette(maybe cd now) put out by the famous Richard Thompson. There are also many other songs, and Richard himself teaches it. Good luck.
