So its better to lose a war in vietnam then. I dont understand why go to war if you dont want to win it. Its just a waste of lives and it seem they are repeating the same mistake again in iraq and afganistan and everywhere.

The politics of WWII and Vietnam were very different. WWII was supported by American patriotism, while with Vietnam, Americans were divided. You can see this plainly in another movie, Forrest Gump.

Additionally, the atomic bombs were used because the American military weighed the pros and cons, and decided that an invasion of Japan would be disastrous for both them and us (as their patriotism was so great, we worried the entire country would do what citizens of Okinawa did.)

Why didnt the US used atomic bomb in vietnam to win the war. It works in Japan.
