West Somerset Railway Autumn Steam Gala 2011

On the West Somerset Railway the line hosted it's Autumn Steam Gala and was regarded as the hottest Autumn gala due to hot temperatures that peaked at the time, never the less it will be a gala that most will remember for the beautifull weather that prevailed. The Railway pulled off a fine show of locomotives and performances and also marked the return of 7828 Odney Manor (renamed Norton Manor: 40 Commando) after an overhaul lasting nearly 10 years.

GNR N2 No. 4744
BR (W) Manor Class No. 7828 Odney Manor (temporarily renamed Norton Manor: 40 Commando)
SR 'Battle of Britain' Class No. 34070 Manston
GWR Castle Class No. 5029 Nunney Castle (only ran on Thursday 29th Sept due to a lubrication pipe fracture the following day)

At the end of the film when 7828 strolls along the Blue Anchor coast, it is worth bearing in mind that the whole scene strongly resembles the Cambrian Coast Line which some Manors were strongly associated with including 7828.

For some who might notice a strange dark frame on the right hand side of the picture, its my lens hood cap which I completely forgot to take off during the gala, its a device I use to prevent the sun light glaring in the shot or to prevent rain dripping on the lens.

Hi Ryan: thanks for the excellent summary of the Autumn Gala (we were unable to get there this year) and a couple of "new" locations that I am busily tracking down on Google maps!! Wonderful also that you have finally joined the world of HD widescreen on YouTube although you probably would not have had the hood problem if you were still in 4:3!! Some nice warm sunny scenes to review in the winter. Aln & Margaret

@Steamclips nice hearing from you and Margaret again. To search for newer spots on the WSR isn't easy once you know the line all too well but I chose what I could find never the less. Also what you need to bear in mind that I made this film as a test bed to see if it can be seen in HD, so don't get your hopes up that I'm going HD anytime soon as I will still use my non-HD camera for a while yet.

Terrific video, excellent shots of the locos working at their best. Your absolutely right, the shot of 7828 reminds of the line from Barmouth to Portmadog that I visited in west Wales.
