That sure sounds like Addison - but he missed the guy who defrauded the old Addison Savings Bank, literally putting it out of business. Sigh, such good times we had.

@jht1414 Tom couldn't think of a line and always just put in an excuse not to deliver the alledgedly too shocking rhyme. Ladies present etc. I always wondered this myself till I heard an interview recently.

The Dear Hearts and Gentle People school of songwriting---a nice nod to Bob Crosby (or whoever actually wrote that old chestnut first.)
Weird Al's "Good Old Days" can trace its lineage directly back to this branch of the songwriting school.

I love this song, but when he omits the line, is there any line that is implied, or is it just a joke?

Geez, where did Tom grow up? Wait... ... ...Wikipedia says Manhattan...Well that explains it!

@alhazerad There is no line. In other recordings, he pauses and says, "No, I think I'd better not." That's sort of the joke.

I hope Tom Lehrer never dies. (Literally... It's obvious that he'll never die figuratively.)
