if done right this could have been an amazing film, possibly oscar worthy, and then they just HAD TO make (the worst) changes
Here is my advice to other people:
read the books, don't waste your money on renting this movie

It took me all of 2 minutes to guess the sign sequence. Quite a pointless, yet surprisingly successful advertising campaign.

the viral marketing campaigns such as this "game," like the movie, actually have very little to do with the novels...except for some lip service when they'd like to trade on Cooper's reputation. Even the signs in the game have little to do with the ones in Cooper's book. Studios are definitely trying to aim this at the shallow end of the pool....

I'm already disgusted with the changes they made. From an 11 year old English boy to a 14 year old American boy. The Rider is on a white horse instead of a black one and then adding in the crush-on-the-hottest-girl-in-school element coupled with the fact that now one of his brothers is involved....I don't know if I'll really enjoy the film. The Dark is Rising is an epic book and had the potential to be an even more epic film but they've possibly ruined it for commercial purpose.

ugh, i read The Dark is Rising and I hated it. It didn't appeal to me and I didn't look forward to keep reading it but once you start you have to finish it.
