HEY, EXCITING NEWS! (for me) ...
Motorcycle Classics has put my bike on the cover and they wrote a very nice article about my BMW story. You can read it here: http://www.motorcycleclassics.com/motorcycle-reviews/a-very-special-1958-bmw-...

Now, here is the description of the slideshow:
This is a photo story of my father's 1958 BMW R50:
Boy meets girl, gets married, buys motorcycle. Rides it for 60,000 miles and has accident when wife is pregnant with 3rd child. (me) Wife orders motorcycle to be taken off road until all her children are grown and on their own. One day when bike is moved to a different storage location, son sits on bike and dreams of being a Jedi Master like his father. Couple grows old together and bike is not ridden for 40 years. Husband is now a grandfather of 7 and married for 50 years, when he dies of a stroke at age 71.
Son looks over the old rotting machine and finds note attached to it from his father to him. Son decides to restore the old 1958 BMW R-50 as a tribute to his father. With the help of many friends, especially Peter Nettesheim, world renowned BMW collector, bike is restored to look even better than it did when it was built in Germany.
Watch it at 720p in full screen for best quality.

  • Thank you for this.. I miss my dad like hell, and wish I could honour his memory the way you did. You are a lucky man...

  • @SuperDungBeetle Thanks. You will never stop missing your Dad. But you do learn to live with it. I am sure you will find a way to honor him also, if you feel the need as I did. Take up one of his hobbies, or take over a project he never finished, or pick up some of his best qualities. I still feel like a shadow next to my father, as he was a 1-in-a-million guy. But when I do things in his name, it makes me feel proud. Good luck!

  • Bill, I've watched your video over a year ago, but it wan't until recently that I made the connection that your dad was my EE professor at Cooper Union, class of '95. Even though I only took 2 classes with him, your dad had a real impact on me. I went from struggling to an A student.

As a fellow rider, a dad, a son, and a student, thanks for the video.

  • @wilwen73 Thanks for posting this! I have received so many messages from his former students telling me how my father changed the course of their lives even if they only had him for a semester or two. At his memorial service, their were 100+ former students telling me the same thing. Some flew in from as far as California to NY, and some hadn't seen him since the 1960's before I was even born! My pops was a pretty amazing individual.

  • what a joy this video was to watch...my dad passed away sept 2006...our love of motorcycles grew from an early age and still continues to this day, every ride taken with him as my gardian angel. your video has brought back wonderful memories, thankyou. these collection of BMW videos are well done and informative . nothing like bringing an old bike back to life, and hearing it start up again. its sounds great in the "first start" video. congradulations on a job (labor of love) well done

  • @roger69ramajets Thank you Roger. Always glad to hear I have brightened someone's day by reminding them of their father. Cheers!
