Arab Media Watch Chairman Sharif Hikmat Nashashibi comments via webcam on the Egyptian blogger Kareem Amer, who is the first blogger to be convicted by an Egyptian court and jailed for 3 years for insulting Isalm, plus 1 year for his comments about Hosni Mubarak.
Oh cool, thanks for that. But still, it is a bit odd the sher lack of anyone from Qatar or the Arab (not Persian :D) Gulf region. Even if they are from north Africa or Jordanian/Palestinians, why not more people from Qatar? As far as I know, none are from that whole region, and it just seems odd, you know. Is there a lack of anchorers there, or are they just showing preferance?
Take Care.

In Doha, Qatar ... and yep, I knew you weren't talking about the English channel. There are a lot of north african anchors who I though were Syrian\Levantine because of the way they spoke "Fusha", which is the standard Arabic. But to be clear about things, most of those anchors who are from the Levant are either from Palestine or Jordan. the only Al-Jazeera associates that are from Syria as far as I know are Tayseer Alouni and Faisal Al-Qassem.
Anyways thanks for explaining.

Hi bro.
I disagree, bloggers should be no more carefull about their expression of their views as we are when we speak.
However, they should take responsibility for what they say - for example if it is extremist and no one listens to them, it is there fault.
Take care.

Where is Al Jazeera then based - I always thought it was in the United Arab Emirates. And when I said that comment about Syrians, it wasn't about the English channel, but the Arabic channel. There, virtually all anchorers are Syrians-and it just annoys me as hell with there dumb accents-I think that answers you other question that i do watch the Arab version a lot.:)
Also about the anchorers and looking European-I hope you understand the stereotype I was talking about in our culture.
Take Care.

Al-Jazeera isn't based in the UAE, and the Majority of its anchors aren't Syrian. There are anchoers who are Saudis, Egyptians, Palestinians, North Africans, Iraqis ... etc.
Have you ever watched Al-Jazeera? cause if you did, you'll know that they (the anchors) don't look "European", unless you want to equate the looks of say Greeks with that of the Nordics!

As an Emerate-based channel, why are virtually all your anchorers and presenters in the Arabic channel overwhelmingly Syrian, or not Emeratee?
That just seems strange - don't you have indiginous presenters in your native population, or is it a shallow way to make your channel look more 'European'?

Bloggers have to be little more responsible about to the publish to the world but the government don't need to have control over them.
