I'm torn... I wonder if its simply the fact that I find her story so interesting that I selfishly want it to continue, or if it really is ok, is she happy? are Apes in a refuge more happy then her? could she be happy in such a place etc... donno..

They've tried plenty of times to get her to mate. For whatever reasons it's just never happened, but they definitely have tried.

And her interactions with this kitten was a lesson in itself about primate psychology, among all the other things we've learned about them through her various other interactions.

Koko loved to read children's books with cats in them and she told Penny she wanted a cat. Koko has never had a sexual relationship before (yet) because of her unusual upbringing (though they've been working for years to build a refuge for her with other gorillas) so Penny thought Koko could be maternal with a kitten.
