kinda, three shots is correct but actually you gotta replace the head on the body shot with the background, and then put the head into the background you just took away.

notice how he kept the camera locked down on tripod for the shot where he cuts his head off

taking someones head off isnt that hard. You film the head, the body, and the background separately. On the head shot fill in the body with the background, on the body shot cover the head with background.

that must of taken a lot of computer graphics especilly the part where his head rolls off

Im using Effectslab lite for my lightsaber movies. works great but i have to add sound in moviemaker later. dat sux

my only question is: with what effect did u guys make that flash when the sabers hit each other?

no effect, i layered in a flash pre-composed before hand when the sabers hit.
