  • Well, one thing is for sure President Chavez in Venezuela, Ortega in Nicaragua, Morales in Bolivia, Correa in Ecuador, Lugo in Paraguay, Dasilva in Brazil, Funnes in El Salvador, and the Kirchners in Argentina are doing a lot better job in the areas of health nutrition and fighting disease than anyone the U.S has ever backed, We can say with confidence , that the roots of Liberation Theology have had a positive impact on the region and there are fruits which US media ignores.

  • She basically summed this up by saying that she was the "blind leading the blind". Dead wrong on everything about Cuba as well.

  • Castro's cuba hardly represents any ideal of liberation theologhy, if anything they have free medical care and scholl education but that's as far as liberating as it goes, beyond that is just another opressive state that couldn't be further than any rational human ideal

  • the economic caracteristics of south america were also ideal, most of the countries were dirt poor and had no rural infrastructure, except for the church which was the only institution & building , it becamme the middle man in dealing with the centralized governments in the decades 50-80's. they served as parrishes, town council meetings, school, medical post etc. the natives identified with it, so these circumstances allowed it to grow into a philo/ideological & social movement

  • Liberation theologhy was not born as a political movement, the southamerican catholic church saw that it could not remain with out acting for social justice under the given circumstances, over 80% of the population is catholic & poor and moreover the rural people. you cant sell a product if there's no market, therefore you can't sell faith if there is no hope.

there is no candidate with 80% approval, it had to do something!

  • There is nothing Christian or liberating about Black Liberation Theology. This lady is absolutely correct from a scriptural standpoint. Jesus did not consider one's race as relevant to their need to be saved. He came to die for and to save the world, period. BLT, does nothing but exacerbate the racial strife that already exists in the world. It promotes an us against them message, which isn't good for anyone. As long as BLT continues to exist, there will NEVER be racial harmony.

  • roberts, Acts DOES NOT teach socialism. The Book of Acts displays the early church practice a form of voluntary communalism. This is much different then state socialism. Jesus did not teach "dialectic materialism", the focus of the Christian is to be on the spiritual.

  • Lady, I understand your fear given your American heritage, but I think your view of this is somewhat wrong. To put it mildly.

  • My question for this lady is how she can say that a 30 percent infant mortality rate in Cuba is better than a 5.3 percent rate. Or how in Nicaragua in the 70s, an illiteracy rate of 50 percent is better than the 10 percent under the Socialist Sandinista not to mentioned just about every other category in health,Or since take power, after 16 years or right wing rule Daniel Ortega has cut the child malnutrician rate from 50 to 20 percent.I say the latter is better.

  • We need to understand that Acts does in fact teacher Socialism, Rapheal Correa, is a Christian Socialist President of Ecuador. and since hes been in power, he has raised tarriffs on imports and reduced their trade deficit. The reason he was thought of as a bad guy along with Ortega, Chavez, Morales Dasilva.Lugo ect, just a few leftist leaders recently elected,is because they opposed the corporate stranglehold on their countries.Who is your God,under Capitalism?THE CORPORATION
