Antique Yixing teapots from the Desaru (c. 1830) shipwreck was considered to make "salty" tea by tea lovers in Malaysia. Inviting them to a 'secret' comparison by brewing tea in a new pot and in an old shipwreck teapot, proved disastrous for the experts. They could not tell the difference between the tea made in a new teapot or that brewed in the old teapots from the shipwreck! (in English and Malay)

  • This demonstration (of desalination) of our "Desaru" (c.1830) teapots was made in a shop selling Chinese tea. All teapots which they display on their shelves are new so be careful with your further research. Best regards Sten

  • Very interesting. Currently seeking information on a pot in my possession, which looks very like the first one on the glass shelf 3 mins and 14 secs into the tape. thanks for the inspiration to search further.
