What this video is really showing is if you plug in your iPod and leave it charging with the White Screen on, Its like having the iPod running or in the turned on State. If you go into iTunes and Eject it... You get he Black Screen or it goes into the Turn Off mode.
Kinda like leaving your cell phone turned on and charging, it will over time make the battery have lost of runtime before re-charging.
