On September 24, 2011, Human Rights in China brought together a diverse group of activists, academics, journalists, and other experts to discuss the complex relationship between Hong Kong and the mainland.
Christine Loh is the CEO of the Hong Kong non-profit think tank Civic Exchange, as well as co-chair of the board of directors of Human Rights in China. Ms. Loh is a lawyer by training, a commodities trader by profession, and was a member of the Hong Kong Legislative Council from 1992--1997 and 1998--2000. She was responsible for a number of historic legislative reforms, including giving the right to inherit land to indigenous women in rural areas, and passing legislation to protect Victoria Harbour from reclamation. Ms. Loh is well-known for her work in environmental protection and climate change, and is an adviser to numerous international bodies. She was named one of the Heroes of the Environment by TIME magazine in 2007. Ms. Loh has earned an English law degree and a Masters of Law degree in Chinese and Comparative Law. She has been awarded the degree of Doctors of Law, honoris causa, by her alma mater, the University of Hull.
