Wavelength again! I thought the same, but couldnt find the words. Its a cute moment and you sense she knew she had the stuff to pull it off...and some!

  • I always loved watching this but 2:10 just rips me up. It's like "where am I, OMG, continue, just continue". She plays it off well though.

  • @BabyRuthCandy85 And she did. Including Burger King and Lysol commercials.

Absolutely agree with you. I wonder though if what she had was too much for one person; being ahead of the game,of everyone around you, in the end you are too much on your own because no one can keep up. Thats the impression I get of Phyllis performing and being interviewed. And of course, that forensic intelligence she invested in her songs. And what a great dramatic and comedic actress on film she could have been. I celebrate her genius, which is what it was.

  • @TheSolaris810 She couldn't be "categorized" which was the "problem". Arista didn't have an R&B or Jazz "department" when her contract was assumed by them. She didn't want to be a household name, a crossover Whitney, nor a disco queen. I applaud her to this day for that.

  • Phyllis Linda Hyman... wow. Thanks for the info @missmochashake. :)

  • She was/is as great as Mahala Jackson, and theres no greater compliment!

Every video I see of Phyllis, I am astounded by her versatility. She really had the lot and as I said regarding another of her videos, perhaps she had too much talent, and her charisma was too big to be pigeon-holed. In a nutshell, she remains the Greatest for me.

  • This song is ACTUALLY called, Help Me Jesus by the Staple Singers! Most recently done by the late Bishop Walter Hawkins on his last CD, A Song In My Heart.I am glad that I caught this rendition by the great Phyllis Hyman. Loved her voice, her presence and her live performances.

  • Magnificent!!!

  • She sure did lead me back into the temptation of watching this video another 5 times with that "lead" at 1:28. Just ridiculously talented. Two thumbs up for an amazing performance!
