    No, they lost because the Giants had a ridiculous front 7 that year (they are still pretty good now, too), and they had a little bit of luck on a certain 4th down play late in the game. Remember, the Patriots lost EVERY bit of information they had collected on any team when they lost the notes and video tapes, they were flying blind the rest of the season.......and they crushed just about everyone they played!
