Sacrificing the hair to Gods in India

Hair extensions bought by the west, sacrificed to the Gods in India. Perhaps you should think twice before buying real hair?!

The reporter: "It's expensive, and it's popular, it can set you back from a few thousands to tens of thousands of Norwegian Kroners, to get your hair extended with real human hair."


The newly shaved woman is saying: "Our favorite God is Muruga. We have had a lot of problems, dept is one of them. I have been praying for my son to get married, and promised him, that if he got himself married, I would sacrifice my hair."


The reporter: "Here in the County Tamil Nadu, south in India, religious people have sacrificed their hair for generations to the Gods, the Gods don't get to keep it long. Tons of hair is sold to companies such as Raj hair international, on a daily basis, these companies have grown fast the past decades, by selling wanted Indian hair to hair saloons, to the west and to countries just like Norway."

The reporter: "The already expensive hair, will now get even more expensive, India is modernizing, and old cultures and beliefs are dying. It will lead to fewer women shaving their heads, and less hair to the markets." (He's kind of repeating what the business man is stating.)

With the hair shaving, it's a tradition. Like @ASaRLuV said it's a way of letting go. It's a symbolic gift, like taking the "blood of Christ". Same principle. You give money to the church right? You know that the priest isn't literally going "HEY JESUS. THIS IS FOR YOU!" It's just that with everything, someone found a way to capitalize on it.

@AStaRLuV no.the reason why they cut their hair is to prove to god that they are not superficial and it's cut in return for a wish or prayer that was fulfilled or in anticipation for a prayer or wish to come true in the future. they are not stupid.they know that god doesn't LITERALLY take their hair.
