In a video about new ways to design natural user interfaces, Bill Buxton, principal researcher for Microsoft Research, explains how engineers can use a combination of interactive gestures and communication methods to enable a society of appliances to assist users of technology.

"Its not about speech, its not about gesture, its not even about the phone, and its not about human-to-human communication, Buxton says. How these things work together in a natural and seamless way that reduces complexity for the users—thats what were about. Getting these things right opens up another dimension in how we have technology integrated into our lives."

  • Amazing.

  • nice speech!

  • yeah.. I'm pretty sure that would leave me disoriented and dazed. The example with the paper was good though.

  • I know you guys consider a phone shooting out fireworks pretty exciting, but its the simple things like this is what has a dramatic effect on technology as a whole. Just as example, did you think a search engine that indexes its pages by the amount of links linking to that one page/site exciting? No....but thats google.

  • He's a mastermind.

  • cool

  • Inspiring speech. How genius are they!
