It's simply a matter of depth. A split catch (in the clean or the snatch) is a nice compromise between catching it in a full squat and catching it in the power position.
By splitting on the catch, Molly's able to get deeper than she'd otherwise get if trying the squat version. It also allows for lifters to retain the quickness needed for success with the lifts.
