WONG:
And a stampede Kills 1 in a crowded train station in Southern China

ANCHOR:
Severe weather and a vulnerable transportation system are keeping millions of Chinese people from returning home this Chinese New Year. And the situation turned deadly this weekend in southern China, as one man was crushed, during a stampede to board a departing train.

STORY:
Officials said the man killed was a migrant worker, who was trying to get back home to see his family.

Backed up trained schedules have forced passengers to spend days on end in the station. And at one point, over two hundred and fifty thousand people were packed together at the station.

21-year-old Xifeng has been waiting two days and two nights to board a train:

[Xifeng, Train Passenger]:
"It is very chaotic. Once you are not careful and fall down, then it is really bad luck for you."

Despite additional security measures, authorities have not been able to guarantee the safety of passengers. And many of those waiting are anxious to leave the station.

[Peng Xiongbao, 23-Year-Old]:
"There is no way I can describe how it is like. Look at all these people, we are so tightly squeezed together. I do not know how to describe that feeling."

Winter storms have damaged transportation lines and power grids. And recovery is likely to be slow, because the winter weather is supposed to last through this week.

At least 60 people have died so far in weather-related incidents. But despite the dangers, many migrant workers are determined to get back to their families in time for Chinese New Year. Otherwise, they may not have another chance until next year.

And this is pathetic, 60 people died trying to get home for chinese new year? Yeah, holidays are fun in a novelty sort of way guys. They're JUST another day and definitely not worth dying over. Stupid.

  • Bull shit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Totally distorted. Keeping order is for preventing more death because of the chaos. Without this kind of regulation, look how many people died during some religious festivals, thousands!!! Vulnerable? Almost 100,000,000 during the spring festival that travel through this transportation system. Other countries, if any, can get this done??? You dumb fucker!!

  • I found him! I found waldo!

  • If this happened in any other country,if will be calamity.
