'I Am Asian American'
[USA | Digital Video | Jia Ming Chen & Eugenia Su | 2009]
Synopsis: As a class exercise, middle and high school students in the Asian American Video Production Class taught by Jason Mak were asked to write an "I AM" poem about their identities and ethnicity. They were then filmed giving their poem. Our very talented teaching assistants then edited it into a single poem with a powerful voice.
'I Am Asian American' is a middle and high school student film completely written and produced as part of the Asian American Video Production class. This class is part of a three week summer program hosted at Lane Community College in Eugene, OR called Pan Asian Rites of Passage. Instructor: Jason Mak. Teaching Assistants: Jia Ming Chen & Eugenia Su. Student Director: Eugenia Su and Jia Ming Chen.
This film is a visual poem made up of students from the Pan Asian Rites of Passage program who described what they felt in an 'I Am' poem as an Asian American individual. Parts were taken out of their original film and edited together as one.
