I was last there in December 2005, and spent an evening down at the station, and watched the weekday evening broad gauge freight come through, and uplift a van from the siding. They stopped, cut off, got the van, and were gone again within 5 minutes. Was the fastest wayside shunt I've ever seen. Here in NZ they would have mucked around for 20 minutes. Is anything still using the broad through there now?

The broad guage has since been converted to standard guage from seymour to Albury. the only broad guage past seymour now is to Tocumwal. passanger services will run to albury when the standard guage work has been completed early next year.

Thanks for that, how much of the route has so far been converted? It'll be interesting watching SG trains passing by the older stations like Benalla instead of always going around the back. Will they be converting the various sidings along the way as well, or just closing them? Like the siding at Wangaratta for example. Will anything be left of the old Albury yards or are they also taking the opportunity to rip them up? Sorry for all the questions!

The whole route has been converted from seymour to wodonga loop. It will be bi-directional double line, new platforms have been built at seymour, violet town, benalla, chiltern to accomodate passenger services on the existing standard guage track. they are only converting the oaklands line as far as i know, other sidings will be removed, the line will completely bypass wodonga, all the broad guage tracks from wodonga loop to albury are gone.

The line will completely bypass wodonga and follow the new wodonga bypass highway highway from the up end of wodonga loop through to the bridge over the murray river at the border.
