The first vehicle in Ford's electrification strategy is the Transit Connect van, which goes on sale in the USA in 2010. As part of the strategy, Ford has partnered with Smith Electric vehicles - who are based in the UK, and who have a long history of making electric vehicles and converting regular vans and trucks to battery power. Here, Dan Jenkins of Smith walks us down the production line just after it has closed, and we see the first electric Transit Connect Tourneo (people mover) headed to the US to begin tests and demonstrations.

  • This is NOT Ford's first electric vehicle! What was Ford doing to comply with California's Zero Emissions mandate between 1990 and 2003? See the film "Who Killed the Electric Car" to see what Ford did with their EV's :(

  • Good point Randy - I'd qualify it by saying that he was referring to it being the first EV in Ford's new strategy of electrifying it's fleet over the next four years.
