  • @maxouf1 I am not commenting on the tonality of the organ. I think the restorations are brilliant and add different colours with each rebuild. What I am referring to is the console itself which has been rebuilt only after 40 or so years as the first replacement was totally sub standard because the combination action broke and required an organists assistant. The original Cavaille-Coll console lasted much longer.Thats craftsmanship for you! Todays plywood wonder console has no character at all.

  • @BaboonArse what you call mutilations are restorations, when organ needs some refreshment, every 50 years is a good thing, most often some modifications are made at the same occasion. It starts making me angry to hear all those people saying 'it was Cavaille-Coll organ and they destroyed it' -> This organ was first built in 15th century, Cavaille-Coll lived in the 19th one, there was modifications before, there was after, and there will be after again. As it is now, it is an excellent organ.

  • @markdtp It's perfectly in tune.

  • I do wish they would tune this organ!! Magnificent playing!!

  • @BaboonArse I think France owns the organ

  • @ davidfodor:

    Von wann ist die Aufnahme?

    Ich kenne da einige Zuschauer...

  • A great organist, shame the organ has been so hideously mutilated and the original console removed. Whoever was responsible for such actions should have been hung. The original Cavaille Coll console has so much more character than the modern soulless replacement, especially when you see the magnificent St. Sulpice in action at the masterful hands of Daniel Roth. I wish there was a video Of Mr Latry Improvising on the St. Sulpice organ!!

  • When was this recorded? Very good improvisation (as always!). Thank you very much for this!

  • Thank you! :-)

  • @ThierryEscaich

I really respect Latry and he is a brilliant musician, but I can't agree with you.
