My vacuum tube tesla coil igniting a small vessel with salt and shooting red streamers.. Looks cute, especially at the end..

  • Cuz salt and a crystal are the same shape, why not put a crystal on it and measure the resonance frequency?

  • Here it's not true - salt was disorganized into tiny crystals on the breakout rod, however I feel like getting your idea - you are thinking of a piesoelectric resonator pulled by an electromagnetic one, like Tesla magnifier with the magnifier coil itself replaced with a crystal, right? In fact, alike devices are already there, and resonant piesoelectric transformers are sometimes used for high voltage PSUs. For TC operation though pieso would be insanely expensive even to outrun a tiny winding.

  • what type of tube are you using?if you ever feel like it why dont you try to make a 811a tube tesla coil....you can get a 811a for 13.75 on ebay. need some advice cause i have a 811a coming and i am making a coil with 'er

  • Naah, 811 is too weak! This is GU-81m, however the spark is too short in this clip as it was an early design. In final version it gave 40cm streamers, but now I moved onto sstc anyway (btw posting the new sstc upgrade movie soon).

  • I just got an Idea! why not get some pure barium or strontium salts to produce a green/ red glow?

  • I tried on sstc already.. Greeny streamers rock! Will make a clip once the coil's rebuilt - I disliked the present secondary so atm I'm rebuilding one..

  • why such a long secondary?

  • niiiiice :D

  • > pieso would be insanely expensive

Human-grown quartz rods, about 8" long, on eBay right now, $15 each. Search on "quartz x-bars"

  • Here is a quick question, does the GU-81M have any similarities to the 833a or 833c? Just wondering cause i have an 833c (OMG!!!) and there are not many videos of 833's. So basically i am asking do they have similar streamer length?

  • what was that bright thing

  • Since the shape of salt is proportionate to a crystal why not electrify a crystal and measure the resonance frequency of it
