Newly elected Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal addressed the nation on Tuesday.

In a televised address to the nation one day after he assumed the office, Prime Minister Nepal stressed on the new constitution drafting and taking the ongoing peace process to a logical conclusion. He urged all to help accomplish the responsibilities of the government through consensus and understanding.

" I have taken the past agreements and cooperation done by the past government as the base for the new Nepal", he said.

In his address, the prime minister thanked President. Dr Ram Baran Yadav for playing a guardian role to serve the country.

He also thanked Nepali Congress President Girija Prasad Koirala, Unified CPN (Maoist) Pushpa Kamal Dahal and other leaders of the political parties.

Nepal was sworn in by President Dr Yadav amidst a ceremony held at the Presidential palace Shital Niwas yesterday morning.

Nepal had previously served as a former deputy prime minister in the nine-month government led by UML in 1994-95. He led the party for 15 years from 1993 to 2008.

He had the support of around 360 lawmakers from 22 political parties, excluding 238 lawmakers from Maoists and two from CPN (Unified).
