M Audio MobilePre USB audio review, video, sax

After buying and testing my new M Audio MobilePre USB, I decided to upload a clip recorded using it to give others the chance to hear the quality before buying.

The song is Street Life originally by the Crusaders, covered by me on sax with a backing track. All I used was a realtively cheap mic, my sax, an iPod, the MobilePre and my computer to record it into Abelton Live Lite 6.

Where it sounds distorted and like it is clipping has happened in the youtube conversion process. The original file is clean, taht's nothing to do with the MobilePre

Would you recommend this for recording drums? (I'm thinking of using the X-Y overhead technique of mic placement)

If you were going to use X-Y placement then it should be fine, the two mics can plug straigth into channels 1 and 2. If you wanted to use more mics, ie bass drum mic as well then i woudl suggest something with more channels OR buy this in conjunction with a mixer (which is what I have since done). I now have a mixer with 4 mic inputs and several line inputs which mixes down to two channels (L+R). I just then use the MobilePre as an interface between mixer and PC. Hope this helps

My sax playing isn';t the topic of this video, and i'm I don't boast of being a fantastic sax player, I'm still at school and by no means is sax playing my living (yet!)
