I added a new score for this poignant little 1912 story, From The Submerged, about a homeless man who considers suicide but who is stopped by a lady of faith who tells him God loves him and not to kill himself. Years later, after being reconciled with his rich father, who dies leaving him his money, he has to decide what kind of wife he will choose to share his life. Will he choose someone who shares his values or just a woman who will look good at a tea party? His thoughts drift back to the woman who saved him years earlier.

Filmed in Chicago's Essanay Studio, it stars E.H. Calvert and the beautiful Ruth Stonehouse.

  • Wow! Thanks for uploading this. Essanay films are so hard to come by now. I was raised on the north side of Chicago, and have walked past the old Essanay studio building many times. Unfortunately, the place has been turned into a school. Bugt at least the building is still there!

  • I'd love to see comparison pictures!
