YES, it is necessary. Because it has a context. War and massacres ARE gruesome and it is important for a movie about such a subject to show it. Have you seen "John Rambo" yet?

Great movie. But the trailer makes the film look like a Spaghetti Western---lots of colorful excitement, a nice love story but missing its true meaning.

Der Film entstand nach dem Buch "Arrows in the Sun" von Theodore Olson. Ich habe ihn damals im Kino gesehen und fand ihn nicht schlecht. Der reißerische deutsche Titel entsprach dem Zeitgeist. "Soldier Blue" tritt eher den Kern, wobei nicht die blaue Uniform, sondern der Gemütszustand des Gefreiten Honus Gant gemeint war. Buffy St. Maries Titelsong mit ihrer zitterigen Stimme allerdings fand ich nervig. Der Film war eindeutig eine Anspielung auf das Massaker von Myi Lai.

I have mixed feelings about this movie.

Whie it brings up an important subject, the massacre scene seemed more exploitative to me than anything else.

Was it necessary to show the kid getting decapitated in slow motion?
