Today Im aware that the tracks name giving island is actually spelled Fatuhiva, but anyway this (Fatu Hiva) is the spelling you can read at iTunes, Amazon or on the CD cover of the album. The island footage is of course Rapa Nui, or the european name Easter Island. Famous for its big rock statues called Moai in the native polynesian dialect. The footage is public domain and since it reminded me a lot of Thor Heyerdahl (author of Kon-Tiki) who wrote books about Fatuhiva as well as Rapa Nui. Fatuhiva is closer to the center of Polynesia, thus closer to what has become known as Tiki. However in recent years and in Heyerdahls days the Moais have become icons of Tiki Pop Culture. The Exotica style of my recording celebrates the mysterious, manifold and obscure cultural sources, seemingly embodied in the giant stone idols os Easter Island. I recorded the track originally for the forthcoming DVD of Tiki. The music was heavily inspired by the likes of Les Baxter composer of Quiet Village (made famous by Martin Denny) and soundtracks in the 1950s and 1960s,

  • Give me public domain Fatu Hiva footage then.

  • I know, but does it matter that much? I should have called the tune Rapa Nui, but at the time I didnt know about this video.

  • The footage is of a barren Rapa Nu, far removed from the verdant Marquesas island properly called Fatu Iva. Cool music. But has nothing whatever to do with Te Pito O Te Henua. And yes, of course the extreme difference matters. Thanks for sharing the music. keep it up... but put some "exotica" visual up with it!

  • The Heyerdahl`s documental novel"Fatu Hiva" is very dramatic and a bit obscure story about young scientist and his wife who wanted to go back to nature etc in late 1930s. . It became quite disastrous event with horrible diseases and strangely behaving local people. I wonder why anybody haven`t made it into movie.

  • e n'est pas Fatu Hiva, c'est Rapa Nui, l'ile de Paques, et ces statues ne sont pas Tiki, ce osnt les Mo'ai.

  • this is not Fatu Hiva...it is easter island

  • The flute is an underrrated lead instrument (except in South America) ;-) Nice!
