David George, Infantryman, United States (US) Army 101st Airborne Division uses Transcendental Meditation to help overcome PTSD - Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
I was just tired of going home to do just the same old nothing. Just not following my dreams of what I always wanted to do. So I left and went down to the recruiters and signed up. The war started when I was in basics so when I got out of basic they gave us this speech that you kind here in the movies which like look to your left, look to your right, these guys are not going to be alive.
The big thing for me was when we were car bombed. It was December, the car bomb that hit our compound and gotten through the gate and luckily the guard in tower one, well, one of the guards shot the car until they detonated, until the people inside detonated. They were two enemy combatants I would say who hit the trigger right as they were dying and blew the car and subsequently like fifty people were injured in the attack.
Question: What is like dealing with PTSD, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder?
David George, Infantryman: You know the jitters you get before a race, like when you were in school or whenever and you line up and they're like counting down before you sprint and you get that tingling feeling in your body? It's anxiety building up before you bolt out, before you know the gun goes off before. Whoever says start and you start running that hundred meter race or whatever and it doesn't stop for, who knows? I just gravitated towards alcohol, I bought, I bought a whiskey, I bought Jack Daniels. That's how that started because as soon as I had a couple of swigs I was like alright well that takes care of that. So every time afterwards when they would go creep up you would go drink.
Question: How did Transcendental Meditation affect your life?
David George, Infantryman: The first time I meditated I experienced this relief from the constant anxiety attacks my life had become. I didn't even realize I was that stressed out but after my first twenty minutes, when I came out of it I realized I was like, that was a break. You have to give yourself a chance to try to make yourself better because no one else is going to do it for you. They might help the way that a Transcendental Meditation (TM) instructor helps you like drive the car which is yourself. I mean that's what they do, they give you the keys to your own vehicle and you learn how to drive yourself the way you want. I wouldn't want to go back to the way I was.
*David has now been practicing Transcendental Meditation for more than one year and says that he won't stop because it just keeps getting better and better.
Marked contrast created by something new: Transcendental Meditation. Although founded on ancient knowledge, this has not been available to the world throughout history as recorded. Now suddenly suffering is no longer necessary, as are many other chronic problems as well. Yet, transition seems to be taking so long. More and more leaders of society are stepping up to take responsibility for organization and directing the relative small amount of funds needed: David Lynch and others. A start.

Suffering is no longer necessary. Something new has been added, making a stark contrast.

Of all the meditation techniques I've looked into, TM (Transcendetal Meditation) appears to be the most effective at reducing trait anxiety, according to peer-review scientific research.

very wise for the soldier to practice TM. it will remedy his mind, his soul from all the 'internal injuries'. and as it is obvious he already percieves good effect of TM. souldiers should know about this possibility. army should know. and implment this technique as a prevention.
