Reaction to my offer to build anyone one of these things (which I'm now calling the Cinemover) who wanted one for $80 was, to put it mildly, enthusiastic. So to say thanks to everyone who has bought (or built) one, we're having a little contest. Here's the scoop:
The MoveYourCamera.com "Make Your Best Move" contest.
This contest is open to anyone who has purchased from me or built according to my specifications a Cinemover compact adjustable camera dolly.
Entrants will post their entry videos in a Vimeo group that will be announced shortly. Complete videos should be no more than 3:00 in length. A 3:00 clip may be submitted that is part of a larger work, and a link posted to the larger work, but the submitted 3:00 or less clip must contain the sequence being entered. Time tags in the description denoting the specific being entered are also appreciated.
The winning criteria will be whoever uses the Cinemover hardware to produce the most compelling shot. This may be judged on the creativity and composition of the shot itself, or how well the motion fits in to the overall narrative, if applicable. We want to see people do cool stuff with the hardware, and our definition of "cool stuff" is somewhat loose. Impress us.
Motion in the shot in question must come primarily from the Cinemover. Motion heads attached to the Cinemover are acceptable as well. Bonus consideration may be given to entries that display a creative diy spirit that others can easily reproduce. If you come up with an earth-shattering way to roll a Cinemover with $30 and a 10 minute trip to the hardware store, you will be strongly considered.
Descriptions of the videos should include as much info as possible on how you used the equipment, unless it is obvious. Featuring the use of the rig n the video is acceptable as well in a "behind the scenes" capacity. Folks who have built their own MUST feature the unit somewhere in the video so I can assess whether or not it meets the criteria for being a true homebuilt Cinemover, or so I can steal any good ideas.
All entries mu be posted in the Vimeo group vimeo.com/groups/cinemovercontest. Entrants much email info@moveyourcamera.com to announce their intent to enter and provide a link to the video. If the return email address you enter from doesn't match the one you originally bought your Cinemover with, or you're a builder, make sure I know who you are.
There will be at least one prize package for first place, possibly more for other videos, but we won't know that for sure until deep into the entries. Tentative end date is September 16th, but this may be moved depending on interest and my ability to fill orders in a timely fashion.
Grand Prize will revolve around an "upgrade kit" for the Cinemover. Possibly ceramic bearings, stainless hardware, or some other cool goodies. I promise it will be worth your while. Subsequent prizes of lesser value for subsequent places or special divisions may also be announced.
Existing companies are also encouraged to join the fun and we can team up for some new prizes. Be creative. Broaden your horizons.
The winner will be picked entirely by me, but I'm sure my wife will have her favorites, too, and If I ever want to see her naked again I may have to cave on a few. I(we) will also be heavily swayed by lobbying, comments on the individual videos, and unsolicited gifts (not really)(yes, really).
Any videos depicting illegal acts will be disqualified. Any videos containing female nudity must be forwarded directly to my email address.
Videos must be shot between July 11th and the end of the contest, which will be Mid September. And exact date will be announced about two weeks from the actual end date.
To buy, ask, or enter, email: info@moveyourcamera.com. Good luck. Group is here: http://vimeo.com/groups/cinemovercontest
eventphotographer1 knows what he's talking about, and I'm pretty sure he's not even my mom just trying to make me look good (but if it is, thanks, Mom).
I actually used mine for the first time in a while this past weekend. Mine was cobbled together from all of the stuff that I wouldn't ship to anyone else: Iffy bearings, out of round wheels, all the wrong hardware. Basically I forgot to build myself one and had to go do a shoot, so I created a Frankenstein. Darn thing still worked awesome
