A lot of the times, they're not going for a choke, they're just trying to protect their far arm from a shoulder lock. You can't really keep it tucked in tight in MMA b/c it opens your face up to strikes. I know what you mean though, a lot of new guys on the ground think the best strategy is to squeeze your head as hard as they can :-P

@Marrk2008 nice post, educated, a true mma fan. Another misconception is that Goran is a stand-up fighter, which is not true. He is a bjj guy.
