From Memorial Day Weekend, 1994, Beverly Williams anchors this edition of The News Tonight. Or maybe it's an edition of KYW News 3. As you can see, the set and graphics have changed to the new style, but the old News Tonight opens and music are still in use.
The new look and name coincided with a major anchor shakeup at the station. Larry Kane returned to the anchor chair, presenting the 11pm newscast. Bruce Hamilton was relegated to the 6pm, alongside recent WCAU alum Stephanie Stahl. (Jennifer Ward was axed entirely.)
The featureless blue set matches what the other Group W stations had recently switched to around this time. So too do the graphics, though I'd argue that KYW manages to have a nice, simple flair to them that's absent at their siblings.
Stations didn't always change their graphics, set, and look all at once like they do today. Instead, it was often common to "phase in" a new look over several days or weeks.
Well, it's still not uncommon today. It took WKMG a few months to "phase in" the new Post-Newsweek graphics, and we all know the case with WWL. It's interesting to see a shorter version of "The News Tonight" open. Mixed in very well...even though the lower thirds kinda jolt you.

@OTownNews It's not the lower thirds, it's the opening shot itself - News Tonight would open with a long wideshot of the dark, Art Decoish studio. Here, it's tight on Bev in front of a very blue set.
The open, if I remember right, was already created and used before. I remember seeing this used on a short Super Bowl pregame or halftime update with the News Tonight staff.
