From Backtrack 5 I did the following....

et_config to look like the following # SENDMAIL ON OR OFF FOR SPOOFING EMAIL ADDRESSES
SENDMAIL=ON
then
apt-get install sendmail

so i have sent an email to myself from backtrack but apparently i don't get that email. The problem seems to be that SendMail is off, does anyone one how to turn it ON?

update your metasploit framework ;) this happened to me too. if you update the SET only then you will get that ^ error. ;) also use option 16 backdoorexecutable. its better.
